MASTER ANSWERS OF CHURCH LEADERS—

GROWING A HEALTHY FIRST CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE QUESTIONAIRE

1.  The mission of the church is Ňto lift up Christ through preaching, teaching and healing.Ó  What can we do to better fulfill this mission?

Better track all worshippers, so people cannot just drop out without being noticed; using worship to close the back door; be a sending church.

2.   Contained within this mission is the call to share the good news with others.

a.   How do you perceive that is accomplished within our church?

We have no organized all church emphasis.  It sort of happens as individuals share.  We need more top down leadership.

b.   What could we do better?

We must be willing to be displaced from our comfort zone so we can visit the sick, feed the hungry.  We must go intentionally to the needy areas, not where it is easy to serve Christ.

3.   Contained within the mission is the imperative to foster growth through discipleship.

a.   How do you perceive this is accomplished within our church?

We offer many forms of discipleship that foster growth through strengths training and seminars, helping people understand their strengths and how to best utilize them in ministry. We have wonderful teachers and classes on Sunday and weekly small groups.

b.  How could we do better ?

We need more time with the leaders; people are so busy these days, they do not have time to really lead our children.  ItŐs so hard to get more that 3-4 leaders at a time together to train them.

4.   In what ways does this church develop you as a disciple and how does it help you live out your faith in the world?

Small groups make me more accountable; gives me opportunities to serve.

5.   What can we do to make the church more accessible to unbelievers and unchurched?

We need to continue to be a welcoming body and make sure that attendees are spoken to and made to feel comfortable.  The Jethro project can help accomplish this if we can all get on board.

6.   Is our church unhealthy in any way?

Cross generational interaction is low.  We need ways to get the old mixed with those younger.  We should not have to beg people to serve, we need more healthy volunteerism.

7.   What is the greatest thing that has happened in our church body this last year?

Our Sports Camp, where over 50 children accepted Christ, and more children and families are coming now as a direct result of this outreach.  We know the names of the children who accepted Christ. We do not have a way yet to follow these children up, need more workers to do this.  The ChildrenŐs Department reception person, is the key to following them up initially.
